The Geomatics Experts Group (GEG) provides consultancy services to the Oil and Gas and aviation industries. Our services are focused on the survey and geodetic related disciplines as the groups expertise has been forged in these areas.
The company does not directly offer consultants for surveying work or offshore work but does have strong links with partners offering these activities. These activities also cover engineering and construction services.
Oil and Gas
Within the E&P sector of the oil and gas industry GEG offers a full range of services covering all upstream activities from survey design to drilling rig location reports. Examples of the services offered are:
- Survey Design +
- GPS campaigns – satellite visibility studies, logistical analysis, network design etc. The company as considerable expertise in GPS campaigns for a range of different acquisition techniques, e.g. PPP, rapid static, fast static, (D)GPS.
- Site surveys – generation of pre-plot charts referenced to the datum and projection of your choice for site surveys around proposed drilling locations. The deliverables will be pre-plot UKOOA P1/90 files, paper and or electronic charts (in a range of different formats, inc: .shp, .pdf, .dxf, .jpg etc.). The pre-plots can also be generated for pipe-route surveys and engineering surveys.
- 2D seismic surveys – generation of pre-plot lines for regional 2D seismic surveys for either land or marine environments. The company will require a overview of where the survey lines are expected to be located, either from a electronic chart or approximate SOL and EOL coordinates. The deliverables will be pre-plot UKOOA P1/90 files, paper and or electronic charts (in a range of different formats, inc: .shp, .pdf, .dxf, .jpg etc.).3D seismic surveys.
- 3D seismic surveys – generation of bin grid definitions for 3D land and marine surveys. Grids can be generated using standard four point definition or multiple point definition as required. The company will require the client to supply the outline polygon definition from an electronic chart or as corner points in a txt file. The deliverable will be a UKOOA P6/98 file containing the definition of the bin grid (referenced to whatever datum and projection is required) and UKOOA P1/90 file containing the pre-plot lines (source and receiver of land, and source for marine). Where UKOOA P1/90 files are required to acquisition geometry will also be needed.
- Seismic navigation data processing and analysis +
- Bin grid analysis +
- Data format checking and file corrections +
- Drilling rig location analysis +
The company will assist in the generation of survey designs for a range of different activities.
These include:
The company offers a range of navigation data processing services for both land and marine 2D and 3D seismic surveys. Our expertise is generally aimed at legacy survey data and reprocessing legacy volumes.
Using our in-house software suite raw navigation observations will be imported from a variety of exchange file formats (inc. UKOOA P2/86, P2/91 and P2/94). The data will be examined for content and quality before being processed to generate source and receiver locations. The data will be exported to a variety of exchange file formats (inc. UKOOA P1/84, P1/90 and SEG P1) referenced to the datum and projection desired.
The software includes a robust least squares computation engine where all quality control measures (precision and reliability) are derived and examined. Statistical testing techniques such as the F- and W- Tests are also available.
The data can be turned around within 24-48 hours depending upon volumes and user requirements.
Previously acquired 3D land and marine bin grids will be analysed as required to determine their properties (e.g. rectilinear properties) and other quality control aspects. Our in-house tools recognise a number of different exchange formats (including self-definition) to import bin grid. The QA/QC routines perform a series of extensive checks on the grid and report back findings in a number of electronic reports.
Bin grid can be re-projected from one CRS to another with the ability to re-square grids after they have been projected. The tool includes a number of different algorithms specifically designed for this process. Bin grids that have been imported in ‘non-standard’ exchange formats can be exported to a ‘standard’ exchange format referenced to a desired CRS (e.g. UKOOA P6/98, SEG-Y (Rev 1)).
Post-processed navigation files do not often conform to standard exchange formats. Legacy files are often missing file headers and thus are devoid of the import metadata that should accompany these files.
Asset data that is stored in corporate databases should be done so such that the integrity of the data is maintained and it can be easily read by corporate IT systems and readily exchanged between partner companies and government organisations. Checking the format of files and correcting them (rebuilding them) so they comply with one of the common exchange formats can be quickly performed using our in-house tools and expertise. It is important to know to what CRS the asset data is referenced and to store data within the database that is all referenced to the same CRS (within AOI’s). Coordinate conversions and coordinate transformations can be applied to data sets during this QA/QC process.
The company will assist in creating and checking drilling location reports ahead of them being submitted for compliance and approval. Selecting drilling locations is one of the most important decisions that geoscientists make and is the cumulative result of the work of many inter-related disciplines. The link of bin node coordinates, easting, northing (x,y) coordinates, geographical coordinates (latitude and longitude), vertical datum referencing and cultural data (such as lease block boundaries) can be overwhelming and having a third party consultation will help cast an independent assessment over the proposed. It is important to ensure total homogeneity that all data is referenced to the same geodetic datum and or projection system. Having pieces of the jigsaw referenced to unrelated CRS’ can have very undesirable consequences.
Aviation
GEG also offers a ranges of Geodetic services in the aviation industry where the company has a wealth of expertise in
- ICAO requirements and software provision.
- eTOD – Electronic Terrace and Obstacle database forms part of the Annex 15 requirements as mandated by ICAO.
Our partner in the Middle East is United ATS.
